Caterpillar of the Banded Tussock Moth

Caterpillar on the deck behind my house in Northern WI.

Photo nerds:  This guy was only about an inch long.  My 70-300 has a macro of at least 5 feet and my 17-85 about  1 ft+.  He was too small to not have to crop to a small file.  I do not own a true macro lens.  Out came the Lensbabies™ lens.  I shot this from about 4 inches.  It was close enough I had to pull out the bellows instead of pushing it in.  Anyway, the Lensbabies lens accounts for the selective focus here.

Northern lights

Taken in Rhinelander, WI USA on 7/14/12. Rhinelander is at almost exactly 45° N latitude. The biggest problem i had was at the peak, the lights were so vivid overexposed. Also, there wasnt a ton of texture. But this one turned out pretty good. My main photography site is at http://www.chiaroscurophoto.com
