Rhinelander, WI. 1/28/2014. Minus 20 degrees, raw temp., minus 43 wind chill. This is just downwind of the paper mill, and the steam from the stacks was blowing through, clinging to the trees in the form of thick frost. Visually stunning and a real bitch on exposed skin.
These young ladies have been friends all through high school. They are now 18 and moving away together next month to seek their fortunes. I decided to create a “story of photos” from our shoot. I wanted the story to represent their lives past, present……and leave a cliffhanger about the future – or perhaps make a statement on ANY future….
This was a commissioned piece. My brother and sis-in-law were telling me they wanted me to shoot a dead tree downriver from their place. In between skimming up and down the river in their boat and upon wave-runners, we’d stop for me to shoot. This shot was just prior to sunset, but early enough for contrast-y light. They liked this shot the best and now have it, among a couple of others, hanging on a wall in their house; a wall in a room with a tree and foliage theme. By Jamii T
